PSL 7: Lahore Qalandars break Multan Sultans’ winning streak
Lahore Qalandars defeated Multan Sultans by 52 runs in the 7th edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL). Sultans have won the toss and elected to bat in the second round match of Pakistan Super League 2022 being played at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Lahore Qalandars did not get off to a good start as Abdullah Shafiq returned to the pavilion with LBW on Anwar Ali’s ball for a total score of 5, then Kamran Ghulam and Fakhr Zaman faced the Sultans bowlers confidently and batted responsibly. Kamran Ghulam scored 42 runs and was caught by Abbas Afridi.
After that Fakhr Zaman played 2 innings of 60 runs off 37 balls with the help of 2 sixes and 5 fours and was caught by Shah Nawaz Dhani in the chase of Imran Tahir’s ball. Hafeez scored 43 off 29 balls with the help of three sixes and a four. Qalandars scored 182 for four in the allotted overs, Phil Salt scored 26 off 13 balls.
Anwar Ali, Shahnawaz Dhani, Abbas Afridi and Imran Tahir took one wicket each for the Sultans. Mohammad Rizwan returned to the pavilion after scoring 20 off 27 balls while Rashid Khan took a crucial wicket of Riley Russo on the very next ball and inflicted heavy losses on the Sultans. Sohaib Maqsood and Tim David had just reached 78 when the Pakistani batsmen scored 29 runs and gave the wicket to Haris Rauf while Tim David’s 24-run innings came to an end at the hands of Zaman Khan.
Khushdal Shah put up some resistance by scoring 22 runs but the entire team of Multan Sultans piled up 130 runs. Zaman Khan was the most successful bowler for Qalandars with three wickets while Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf and Rashid Khan took two wickets each. For the match, both teams did not make any changes in their previous matches. In Pakistan Super League, Multan Sultans team is leading by winning all its six matches and has qualified for the playoffs.
On the other hand, Lahore Qalandars have won three out of five matches while they have failed in two.
